General Tips:
Choosing Pieces
-
Choose pieces you are confident and comfortable in; pieces which show off your strengths as a musician
-
A complicated piece does not mean a better performance or higher mark
-
Choose your pieces early to ensure you have more than enough time to work on them or change choices if need be
-
Consider what accompaniment is necessary for your piece and whether you are able to organise it for your exam
Practise!
On the day
-
Practise in exam conditions ie. rehearsing in the actual space you will be performing in on the day
-
Practise setting up - where you and your accompanists would be standing/facing (you should be able to see your accompanist clearly, vice versa)
-
Make sure you allow enough time to tune any instruments before and/or between pieces
-
Do a sound check before your performance
-
Always warm up before your performance to get in the mood and focus your mind on your instrument and music
