Composing for Percussion:

Specify what mallets to use

Use a key/legend for notation

Specify on the score when the player needs to change instruments or when the playing method changes

Marimba: can be written for treble and bass clef (check pitch range of instrument)

Vibraphone: add pedal marks to the score

Timpani: provide time for the player to change pitch
-
Drums: Maximum of 4 notes can be played simultaneously (2 hands 2 feet)
-
Avoid writing music where everything sounds like a rock pattern
