We learnt to build our own mini synthesisers AND do some music coding!!
I've only ever played a synth, but I've never built my own!
So here's 3 simple steps in order to make a synth!
1. Power
2. Oscillator
3. Speaker/headphone
Ta daa! There you have a synth!
Of course, to make sounds more interesting and for more variation, you can add triggers e.g. mini keyboard or sequencer before the oscillator. You could also add delays, envelopes, filters or even a second oscillator for more effects! I very much enjoyed the hands-on experience I had tampering with the effects on a physical synth rather than the virtual knobs that I adjust within Logic Pro X. It's amazing to see what little pieces of tech can produce! What a simple resource that is FUN and educational? Now we just need more music educators that are tech savvy..
Speaking of tech savvy, did you know that there is a program which allows you to code your own music? Not play, or perform.. but CODE it! It was so awesome! Check out a little excerpt I coded on Sonic Pi...
