2ND FANTASIA!

Composed by: James Humberstone Performed by: Lolita Emmanuel

Lolita's Performance of Humberstone's 2nd Fantasia in Recital Hall West at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music

So last Wednesday was all about putting into practice what we have learnt about film shooting and recording so far! This was a very exciting piece to listen to, especially as it was composed by our very own lecturer, James Humberstone! So of course, we gave it our best "shot" in setting up and operating all the film equipment for an awesome film shoot and production!

Choosing the best spots to place the cameras were not as easy as I thought it would be...

"Do we place it behind her for a back shot? That would be interesting. Or perhaps should we place it at the front, zooming in on her facial expression?"

There's no right answer because it's all about art and aesthetics!

Setting up mics weren't all that easy either! Melody, Lucas and I encountered problems when setting up the XY microphones. There was no working Zoom recorder that we could plug the XLRs into! We replaced the SD card, and nothing changed. Luckily, James came to the rescue and suggested that we didn't actually need 3 sets of XY mics as 2 of them were in the exact same position.. and therefore we could pack away one set and plug the XLRs straight into the still camera. How did we not think of that?

It was a beautiful performance indeed and was definitely worth all the hard work that our class put into this film shoot! And the main thing is... we learnt heaps and had an awesome time!
